Into the Forest

Rooted in nature,

woven in kinship

In a Protected Forest on the Hāmākua Coast, Big Island

August 1 - 3, 2025

Welcome

This is a weekend gathering for women who want something gentler. Earthier.

We’ll wander through mossy trails.
Breathe under ancient trees.

Share slow sun-dappled mornings with hot drinks and fresh island food.

We'll let the land shape our rhythm, instead of our phones.

This is for women who crave gentleness without needing to earn it.

For those who want to walk and exhale with others.

Into the Forest is held in a forest preserve on the Hāmākua Coast—two nights in cabins, with shared meals cooked for us, and a full day immersed in the forest.

Not just walking through it, but becoming part of it.

We’ll befriend the trees, create forest art, practice stillness, tend a communal lodge, and remember what it feels like to belong to something authentic and honest.

No performances. No perfection. Just embodied presence.

The forest itself holds the purpose of our gathering. Like the mycorrhizal networks beneath the forest floor, we will weave connection, care, and mutual support throughout our time together.

Go out in the woods, go out. If you don't go out in the woods nothing will ever happen and your life will never begin.

- Clarissa Pinkola Estes

What Awaits You

  • 2 nights shared cabin accommodations (Friday 3 PM to Sunday 9 AM)

  • 5 vegan meals (with some vegetarian options), catered by Sweet Cane Cafe in Hilo

  • Sharing Circle each night

  • Forest Wandering and lightly guided Forest Therapy

  • Optional Forest Wildcrafting (gathering what has already fallen, no cutting)

  • Gentle morning movement to begin each day in tranquility

  • Evening Dance or Moon Dancing (a space to move as you feel—unled and open)

  • Free Being Time (bring a book, sketchbook, journal, drum, wings...)

  • Craft Nook: a cozy corner for quiet creativity. Simple supplies will be available. You’re welcome to bring a small, low-mess project to enjoy or leave behind for others—such as handcrafts, a journal, or a small instrument.

  • Wild Women Hawai'i shirt (while supplies last)

We’ll spend time deep in the forest, reconnecting with our senses. Barefoot wandering is welcome, but not expected.

Our Relationship with the Land

We hold a deep respect for this place and its stories. Our gathering is shaped by my training in forest therapy and my long relationship with this land. All activities are held with the utmost respect for the space. What we create and experience is done in quiet relationship with the forest, never over it. We'll move slowly and with care—never to take, change, or claim, but to listen. We won’t cut or alter the forest. Instead, we'll create simple rituals using what’s already been offered: fallen leaves, branches, and breath.

  •

We come together not as tourists or seekers of something exotic, but as women remembering how to be in relationship—with the land, with one another, and with ourselves.

We do not teach or draw from Hawaiian spiritual practices. We come with humility, aware of where we are, and committed to honoring that with our presence.

Lodging

Our rustic cabins hold up to 8 women in bunk beds. Each cabin has a basic hot water shower and one bathroom. WiFi is nonexistent (and you will be glad).

Please bring your own bedding, sleeping pad, and any comforts to create your own cozy bunk space. You are encouraged to decorate your bunk to make it your private sanctuary.

The All-Hands-In Spirit

To keep this gathering affordable and aligned with our community values:

  • Everyone will take one meal cleanup shift (no cooking required).

  • We’ll all help keep the shared spaces cozy, clean, and welcoming.

  • Everyone will contribute to the ease and flow of our time together.

This is how we honor the ancient ways of sisterhood, by looking after one another and the space we share.

Crunchy Meter

This gathering leans crunchy, with some scrunchy tendencies. Brave and open-hearted silkies are also welcome.

You’ll be rooted in the Earth. Expect rustic conditions, sensory experiences, and the unexpected beauty of unplugging.

Who Is This For?

Women ages 21 plus.
Most attendees range from 35 to 65, with a healthy scattering of younger and older women. We value a multigenerational group where stories and wisdom are shared.

This gathering may be for you if:

  • You are hoping for deep connection with nature and sisterhood

  • You are willing to unplug, sleep in rustic cabins, and help tend a shared space

  • You are open to gentle, meaningful rituals and guided experiences

  • You are ready to both give and receive care

  • You are comfortable with communal rhythms rather than one-on-one attention

Your Host and Guide

Michelle Gallagher Escobar
Founder, Wild Women Hawai'i

Our first Wild Women Hawai‘i retreat was held in this forest. Returning feels like coming home—with deeper roots and clearer eyes. My love for the woods inspired this grounded gathering—a space where women can disconnect from worldly stress and reconnect with nature, sisterhood, and their own inner wisdom.

As a certified forest therapy guide, I’ll gently cultivate the rhythm and tone of the weekend. While some parts of our time together invite shared contribution, I will tend the overall container—so you can simply arrive, exhale, and trust what unfolds.

I’ll guide soft forest experiences, gentle morning movement, and simple rituals. Our sharing circles will be co-created in the spirit of care, listening, and inclusion.

This is a rediscovery of our roots as women—looking beyond personal needs and tending to one another in harmony with the Earth.

A Note on Sharing
Wild Women Hawaiʻi gatherings are network-free environments.
Rather than exchanging business cards or bios, each woman will have the opportunity to share what she offers by contributing to a Sisterhood Sharing Bag—a simple gift bundle given at the end of the weekend, to be opened once you return home.

Visit The Networking & Sisterhood Sharing Bag for details.

When women gather in trust, something ancient stirs.
We become more ourselves—together.

This is a space for those who feel quietly drawn.
Not to lead or lift others, but simply to be in it—together.
To stay close to what’s stirring.
To walk alongside what’s unfolding.
If that feels like you, welcome.
